A Glance at your Journey
The program is organized in three tiers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. The first tier helps you connect to the events in your life that preceded your beginning The Journey. The second tier helps you examine what you are currently going through with your grief so that you can find some understanding and peace in your chaotic and painful experience. The third tier of program work turns you toward the future and how you will live in your changed world. The program ends with a participatory celebration of renewed joy of life.
Early in your journey, you discuss with leaders and others in the group the program´s purpose and objectives. Also covered are standards of conduct such as confidentiality, respect and participation. The groups are small to facilitate understanding, discussion and a sense of community.
Sessions are intense, emotional and can be stressful. But no exercise or discussion is conducted without purpose and all work is based upon sound principles and practical experience. The journey through grief is hard, but also extremely rewarding.
It takes a Commitment
All who are interested in the Journey to Joy™ program are screened before acceptance. Why? Because some are not yet at an ¨emotional place¨ in their grieving process to be open to recovery. Facilitators personally interview each candidate (usually by telephone) to assure that they can benefit from the program. All information is confidential.
Those who are accepted are advised that they must commit to attend all six sessions since this is a progressive program, with each session building upon what was learned in the previous session(s). There is also the commitment to be on time, to be honest with oneself, and to respect the integrity of the program. Participants also agree to attempt to complete homework assignments and to enrich themselves between sessions with faithful prayer.
Journey to Joy™ is not a ¨come and go¨ support group. It is a serious recovery program that requires work and commitment. The results are worth the effort.
